Kikker X De Nijverheid Funeral Ecstacy Part 2: The Simulation

Imagine: a virtual version of you still attends family gatherings after your death. Or you tweak your DNA to live healthily to 150 years old. Does that sound appealing? And what would you be willing to sacrifice for it?

What was once science fiction is getting closer: from digital avatars that preserve your memories to therapies that could extend your lifespan. Will we soon be able to call our mothers forever, even after they’re gone?

In The Simulation HipSick creates a disruptive exhibition to explore immortality. You enter a space where time has no end, and you smell the scent of something that shouldn’t exist. A heavy, artificial breath echoes, because as long as it breathes, it exists. Digital screens flicker, and an avatar appears, transforming the space into pulsating energy. Through this performance, HipSick explores the extremes: the hope, the fear, and the reality of a future where death may no longer exist.  What does it feel like to live forever, and what are the inevitable downsides of eternal existence?

This is Part 2 of the FUNERAL ECSTASY performances, however, it is not needed to have seen Part 1 to attend this new part.

This performance will take place at De Loods at De Nijverheid. Adres: Nijverheidskade 15, Utrecht.

Practical information

This performance is at De Loods (the hangar) at De Nijverheid. We advice you to dress warm, as the Loods is rather cold inside. The hangar is wheelchair accessible (with the exception of the balcony). Before and after the show you can grab a drink at art café De Nijverheid. If you would prefer to eat something, on Saturday the kitchen of restaurant Peuzel is open. You can reserve a table through their website .

About De Nijverheid

De Nijverheid is a cultural haven in the area Werkspoorkwartier in Utrecht. It contains multiple studio's and creative workplaces of more than 60 independed artists, designers en creative developers. It all started at the end of 2017 with an empty hangar, a dusty office and an industrial outside area full of possiblities. Since that time period we demolished, build, collected and created with a lot of heart and determination a mission: a safehaven for art. A raw place where artists kan make, experiment and showcase work. A place where not only artists, but everyone that has a love for art and culture can get inspired.

Adres: Nijverheidskade 15, Utrecht.
