You read it more often: 'Person found dead in house for 3 years. The person was not reported missing.' It is happening increasingly often that people pass away unnoticed. In 2023, it occurred five times more than before the turn of the century. Five times as many people uttering their last words to an empty house. Their bodies too decomposed to say anything with certainty about their final moments. It is precisely this uncertainty that forms the starting point for the new production by KASKO, directed by theatre maker Hendrik Aerts.
Paradise Circus Island invites you to lay yourself down there, with your cheek on the cool tile floor of the kitchen. With letters piling up in the hallway. A body slowly decaying. From summer to winter. From mud to dust. But no one misses you enough to break down the door. What is life that continues while you lie with your cheek on the kitchen floor?
With Paradise Circus Island we peek through the mailbox. We chat with the neighbors. We listen to the stove that still ticks. The refrigerator that still hums. And eventually, we break down that front door. Together with 7 other characters who each live in their own isolation. Each on their own island.
A performance with singing, live music, text, and dance, spoken in different languages.

Paradise Circus Island is de eerste voorstelling van KASKO, onder artistieke leiding van Hendrik Aerts. Kenmerkend voor het werk van Hendrik en zijn team is de rijke theatertaal. Met voorstellingen waarin plaats en tijd nét anders voelen; waar symboliek, poëzie, barok en emotie naast elkaar bestaan. Het is werk dat mensen raakt op verschillende niveaus: cognitief, zintuiglijk en emotioneel.
Als maker wil Hendrik zich blijven ontwikkelen in de samenwerking met andere kunstdisciplines. Én hij wil daarmee ook jonge performers inspireren en een brede ervaring meegeven. Omdat binnen de curricula van de opleidingen de focus ligt op het leren van een ambacht, blijven de schotten tussen de disciplines behoorlijk overeind. Terwijl de wens om die grenzen te doorbreken er zeker is, zowel bij performers, opleidingen én werkveld. De professionele expertise die Hendrik in zijn carrière heeft opgebouwd sluit hier volledig op aan en zijn aanpak is onderscheidend in de manier waarop ieder teamlid tot mede-eigenaar wordt gemaakt. Het bouwen van bruggen tussen verschillende kunstvormen vergt tijd en aandacht en is voor KASKO essentieel, ook als investering in de toekomst. Alleen op die manier ontstaan Gesamtkunstwerken.
