Storytelling Tuesday: Soula's Storytelling Nights The music in me
Soula Notos i.s.m. Theater Kikker

Funny, sad, scary, sweet, unbelievable, comforting stories: that's what Soula's Storytelling Nights are all about. Make yourself at home and listen to stories from all over the word!
Come and listen to experienced storytellers and talented newcomers tell their tales. And if inspiration strikes, audience-members are invited to put their name in a hat. At the end of the night two names will be picked at random and these two lucky birds will get to share their story. True stories about crazy families, horrible dates, myths, folk tales, newly written stories: anything goes as long as the stories are told and not read from paper.
Soula's Storytelling Nights are in English. Theme for this special edition filled with music is: The music in me.
The music in me dives into stories about how music and dance make you part of a bigger collective, about losing your voice and finding it again but in a different form, about remembering the voice and spirit of your best friend and about singing when people teach you not to.

For a decade and a half, Nora was a highly successful singer, touring the world with her adventurous and creative approach to live performance. She appeared at prestigious venues such as New York's Carnegie Hall and LA's Walt Disney Concert Hall, but also at pop festivals such as Lowlands and Into the Great Wide Open, at squat houses and roof terraces, and in mysterious forests at Oerol Theatre Festival. Until she got completely stuck and couldn't sing one note anymore. After disappearing for a while from the public eye, Nora reinvented herself as a writer and storyteller. She reappeared on stage in 2024 with her one woman show The Leap, in which she told the story of how she fell prey to high pressure and suffocating perfectionism. The Leap was received with unanimous praise, and lead to several invitations to write a book version of the story. This book – Hoogspanning – was released in November 2025 with renowned publisher Pluim. In that same month, the documentary about her journey – Nora speelt Nora – was broadcast on Dutch national TV.

Can Bora
Can Bora is a queer multidisciplinary artist and storyteller based in Amsterdam. His work is deeply rooted in exploring the somatic body as a tool for liberation, self-emancipation, and self-discovery, with a central focus on connectivity — within the self, between people, and across broader ecological systems.
As a somatic performer, he works in two interwoven modes: building simultaneous artistic experiences with participants and, as a storyteller, giving shape and voice to shared narratives. He is also the founder of HEALIVE, an Amsterdam-based somatic practices studio, a space he created out of a genuine joy in bringing people together.

Ammar Zaitoon
By day, Ammar navigates the rigid world of data; by night, he breaks the rules. Making his debut, Ammar brings the warmth of the Mediterranean and the weight of modern politics to the stage. His stories are a road map of emotional highs and lows, centred on the belief that true freedom comes from being ourselves. He is thrilled to share Breaking Rules with the Utrecht community. Outside of the theater, Ammar is known for his competitive spirit and his inability to catch a single wink of sleep on a plane.

"Soula’s living room was once again a warm, cozy place where people dared to tell personal things to complete strangers. The benches were filled to the last spot. Tea, coffee and baklava. Especially the stories from countries where there is little room to be yourself made an impression on me. Soula’s summary at the end was both moving and hilarious."
"Soula is a great comedienne and hostess who is brilliant at creating a friendly atmosphere. People are invited to think outside the box and experience the magic of the story. The storytelling culture in Utrecht gets a nice boost because of this and these evenings are indispensable."
