two very well received works by Liam McCall now presented in one evening, showcasing the young maker’s current development and artistic signature.
He has an avant garde approach to the Hip-hop dance vocabularies focusing on expanding the expressive qualities while keeping their integrity. His work revolves around the realness of the human experience and the surreality of imagination. It is intense, poetic and visually strong. The HipHop credo ‘making something out of nothing’ is strongly present in his work, by way of a strong focus on the here and now during the performances, transforming the space with self set and manipulated light, and moving away from the traditional black box theatre. What you see is what you get, and you will get a lot this evening.
How do we hold on to light in a world that seems to keep getting more dark? FR/AGILE is a honest dance solo in which Liam McCall tries to find a way to unify his fragility and agility. It’s a plea for the need for vulnerability in HipHop, revealing his raw human self through his Bboying form. A battle through darkness in search of some peace of light.
In 2022 FR/AGILE won the Best of Fringe Amsterdam Award.

refraction [breaking light]
Have you ever noticed that if you look at something through a glass of water, the object seems to change shape and place? It’s magic hiding in plain sight. This is refraction: a lightwave breaking on a surface and changing velocity, causing us to not see what's really there beneath the surface.
In this duet Liam McCall and Oscar Starink (two b-boys from Underdogz crew, together since 2009), research what it means to be a breaker and use light to share that vision. What lies beneath the image of a b-boy, and becomes apparent deep under the surface? A poëtic and personal portrait of two brothers in Breakin’.
