Phantom Harmony & A Tribute to Everything That Breaks

In this double bill two artist bring different struggles with mental health to light.
Shaquille George's Phantom Harmony is a powerful solo-performance that tries to break the taboo surrounding depression. In A Tribute to Everything That Breaks Yoko Haveman celebrates the female power of destruction.
After participating in ‘One Night’s Dance’, Shaquille George returns as a creator at dansateliers to further develop his previous solo ‘phoenix’ into a new performance: Phantom Harmony.
Phantom Harmony is the tale of my journey on how I struggled with my mental health and the importance on using my artistic point of view to convey this story. In the hopes to start a dialogue or to even have small window, where people might take a second to reflect on themselves and others around them that could potentially be struggling with said topic.
I feel as though society tend to avoid discussion that make us feel uneasy or uncomfortable. We might not even acknowledge it or even fully disregard its importance.
My aim with my practice “Emotive Flux”, I try to develop concepts that tend to be unspoken, but that are also of importance to me as an individual. That I feel is way to contribute to the grander scheme of things, which is important to the ebb & flow of life.

A tribute to everything that breaks | Yoko Haveman
A tribute to everything that breaks is an interdisciplinary psycho-dystopian solo performance that confronts the eroticization of violence, inspired by the world of neo-noir anime. Drawing on hyper-stylized bodies and pop-cultural innocence, Yoko Haveman examines hyper-sexualization, power, and isolation through the charged notions of Lolicon and Hikikomori. Moving between subjective ugliness, seduction, and resistance, the body refuses to be fetishized or victimized, emerging instead as an autonomous force.
Yoko Haveman is an independent artist: director, maker, and performer, with a tri-cultural background (Brazilian, Japanese, Dutch). Her work investigates the relationship between the body, subcutaneous trauma, and human complexity, operating at the intersection of performance art, dance, and cinematic imagery. A tribute to everything that breaks is an artistic act in which the body withdraws from fixed, systemic roles and reclaims its own agency.
