Love songs for friendship and survival.

Why we decided to get a dog is an eccentric collection of serenades to chosen family: serenades to the friends you want to share a dog with, the friends you would carry a child for, you would actually enjoy spending Christmas with or would marry platonically tomorrow. Two chosen siblings dream out loud about a queer future that doesn’t look like settling down. How do you start a family that functions outside of the hetero-infrastructure? What does a love song sound like if it lacks a romantic motif?

Why we decided to get a dog is a vocal performance for two voices, to electric guitars and two hydraulic lifts. Drawing from interviews with queer families and from Timo and Hélène’s own friendship, they perform an experimental, critical and visual deconstruction of a serenade-concert.
