The demonic voice of a mother saying he is not allowed to be angry? Expelled. The voice of a racist bouncer telling him he doesn’t belong in the club? Sent off. His white artist collective that doesn’t take his artistic voice seriously? Smoked out. But what to do with your own voice, when it sabotages you at every given opportunity and would like nothing more than to see you burnt to the ground?

Inspired by Persian mythology, and accompanied by lyrical, narrative music, Amir frees himself from  old compulsive habits. He tries to find trust in being vulnerable, even if getting hurt is a guarantee. Because there simply is no other option. Because the D20 sometimes rolls a 20 and sometimes a 1, but usually something in between (nerd alert!). And also because fate is not fate until you take things into your own hands. Letting go is also a form of harvesting.

We Sleep Among Demons is a creation by Amir Vahidi, in which he searches for roots that don’t need earth to ground. For a heritage that transcends space and time.

The performance features Dutch, English, and a touch of Farsi, spoken and sung. Therefore, surtitles are provided with translations in either Dutch or English.
