Theater Kikker takes on the experiment and presents makers in the middle of their creative process. Various theatre- and performancemakers show what they are working on for one evening and ask the audience for feedback. This edition features two choreographers: Faizah Grootens and Anthony van Gog.
Faizah Grootens explores how our environment influences our behavior for a week in Theater Kikker en presents her first steps into the research. Anthony van Gog makes the invisible tangible with ingenious scenography using invisible microphones.
UNWRITTEN- Faizah Grootens
UNWRITTEN is a Work In Progress, an interim space on the way to something new. From a physical sensitivity, choreographer Faizah Grootens, together with Justin Brown and Matheus Moreira, explores how our environment influences our behavior. And how this is expressed in physical embodiment. They investigate how genuine presence, honesty, and temperament come together.
Next season, Faizah will carry this exploration into the development of a new work at Korzo Theater, which will tour nationally.
About Faizah Grootens
Faizah Grootens was born and raised in Curaçao. She graduated from the Amsterdam University of the Arts and the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana, Cuba. As a choreographer, she has collaborated with various well-known organizations, such as the Holland Dance Festival, Het Zuidelijk Toneel, Laleget Danza (Mexico), and Taller Coreográfico Unam (Mexico).
Her work has been presented both nationally and internationally at, among others, CaDance Festival, Kalamata Dance Festival, Oriente Occidente, and in various museums and theaters in the Netherlands, Cuba, Mexico, New York, Curaçao, and Aruba. Faizah’s work is characterized by vulnerability, temperament, infinite flowing circular movements, and polyrhythms, which naturally emerge through her Creole body language in contemporary choreography.
In May 2026, the new work by Anthony van Gog, The Quiet, will premiere at the International Performing Arts Festival SPRING. As part of his creative process, Anthony shares his sound research for this performance with the audience at Kikker Experiments. What happens if we no longer force the body to perform, but simply let it be? In The Quiet, the tiniest movements of sleeping, dreaming, or dying bodies are
magnified into a sensory experience. The quietest movements of the body—fever, shivers, insomnia, excitement, fatigue—are not just shown here, but experienced.
About Anthony van Gog
Anthony van Gog (Riemst, 1996) graduated in 2019 from the Performance program at the Maastricht Academy of Dramatic Arts. His work operates at the intersection of theatre and visual art. He continually allows body, sound, and space to play with each other. In addition to his artistic practice, Anthony is pursuing a master's degree in Philosophy at the University of Antwerp. Since 2023, Anthony has been affiliated with DansBrabant as a PLAN-maker. In that same year, he created the performance 'crowdkill,' which was shown last year at Theater Kikker.
