Storytelling Tuesday: Soula's Storytelling Nights: Lost in Translation

Funny, sad, scary, sweet, unbelievable, comforting stories: that's what Soula's Storytelling Nights are all about. Make yourself at home and listen to stories from all over the word!
Come and listen to experienced storytellers and talented newcomers tell their tales. And if inspiration strikes, audience-members are invited to put their name in a hat. At the end of the night two names will be picked at random and these two lucky birds will get to share their story. True stories about crazy families, horrible dates, myths, folk tales, newly written stories: anything goes as long as the stories are told and not read from paper.
Soula's Storytelling Nights are in English. The theme for this edition is: Lost in Translation. Stories about moving places and trying to speak new languages, understand unwritten rules of a new place, trying to make relationships work, figuring out who and what you are or trying to understand the world we live in. You know, little things :-)
Julia-Beth Harris is a poet and performer from South Africa, now based in Amsterdam. With a background in design and creative writing, she brings a distinctly visual and multi-layered quality to her texts. Her work moves between continents, reflecting her position between the global North and South. Writing as an act of unification, she builds bridges between cultures and communities, embodying both grace and calmly commanding stage presence.

Lauren Maxwell
Lauren Maxwell is a writer, producer, and theatermaker based in Amsterdam. She loves to blend her experience with storytelling, theater, improv, and burlesque to create new things, and is always trying to follow the “niggle”. Her shows have been featured around town and in the Edinburgh and Gothenburg Fringe festivals. In December, international theatre company Downstage Left will produce and perform her most recent short play. During the day, she’s a producer and at night, she’s very happy to get better at sewing and costume making, and is learning to dance at the tired age of 37.

Natalino Bucci
Natalino Bucci is a Neapolitan singer-songwriter, (retired) engineer, actor, theatre maker, scriptwriter and finally storyteller. Founding member of the Loom Storytelling Collective and director of Sipario, Italian theatre group in NL.

Reversed
Utrecht based Rian Evers is a troubadour, songwriter, composer, singer and musician. For over ten years she has been writing songs, composing music and performing. Now, in collaboration with other musicians she performs under the name of Reversed and is working on their first work a double-debut-EP called Headstrong.

"Soula’s living room was once again a warm, cozy place where people dared to tell personal things to complete strangers. The benches were filled to the last spot. Tea, coffee and baklava. Especially the stories from countries where there is little room to be yourself made an impression on me. Soula’s summary at the end was both moving and hilarious."
"Soula is a great comedienne and hostess who is brilliant at creating a friendly atmosphere. People are invited to think outside the box and experience the magic of the story. The storytelling culture in Utrecht gets a nice boost because of this and these evenings are indispensable."
