Welcome to PISS POOL, a TikTok mansion for the sixty-plus generation, a lush wellness resort packed with beauty booths, webcams and ring lights. Here, older women livestream their hypermodern rituals of self-renewal, gently coached by a social influencer.
After BIMBO (2011), a deep dive into the suffocating pressure of beauty expectations placed on women, Boogaerdt/VanderSchoot now plunge headfirst into the algorithm-driven hunger for eternal youth that defines our digital age. How do you grow old gracefully when everything around you screams “refresh”? How do you age in a world of fillers and filters?
In collaboration with visual artist Lisa Schamlé, Boogaerdt/VanderSchoot craft an intimate multimedia performance that transforms the notion of (life)time into a space where older women, whether dressed or nude, take time back into their own hands.
Warning: This performance features medical procedures, birth-related scenes, smoke effects and flashing lights.
December 6, 9:30 PM – 12:00 AM Orange Afterparty with DJ Sashay during the Catharina Now Festival
Dance along to the music of DJ Sashay with a mix of Afro, Disco, House, and Soul. As part of the Catharina Now Festival, our facade will be lit orange and we are hosting an afterparty at Piss Pool.
The Catharina Now Festival is a Utrecht-based festival as part of Orange the World, a global campaign against violence towards women and girls. The campaign takes place every year from November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10, International Human Rights Day.
The Catharina Nu Festival is popping up in various locations these days to color the city orange. Through dance, theater, music, and workshops, it is made visible that safety for women and gender-diverse people is not a given. The Legend of Catherine of Alexandria is closely intertwined with Utrecht's history and tells the story of a woman who remained true to herself in a time of violence, abuse of power, and social upheaval. The color orange, a symbol of hope for a future without violence, will therefore also be seen these days on the façade of Theater Kikker.
DJ Sashay
DJ Sashay began her journey as a dancer, but since 2019 you can also find her behind the DJ booth. She gets the audience dancing with classics in Afro, Disco, House, and Soul/R&B. 'For the love of music to bring me to higher vibrations. Make the ongoing healing of sounds never stop.'
