Sex is great, sex is gross, sex is… sexy - but ‘Paradise Circus Love’ surpasses that
Directed by Hendrik Aerts, a new generation of performers embodies the reality of sexwork: a portrayal of the hidden nature of human desire. Raw and delicate. In ‘Paradise Circus Love’ five characters share their relationship to sexwork.
One imagines himself as “Gay-sus Christ, saviour of sinners”, while another has trouble discerning their private life from their professional endeavours. “The worlds oldest profession” still remains hidden beneath layers of taboo and confusion.
Sexwork is much more than “whoring”: it calls to deeply-rooted desires and intimate needs that would otherwise never see the light of day. Sensations that lie at the very core of everything we do. Vulnerable. Raw. And terrifying.
Through dance, music and text, ‘Paradise Circus Love’ takes you through a variety of shapes of intimacy. What’s in between self-expression and ‘just doing your job’?
