Why is a woman’s “goodness” often measured by the neatness of her hair?

In It’s Never ‘Just Hair’, Avantika Tibrewala summons the Chudail — the femme fatale from Indian folklore that they warned you about. Her hair spills beyond the polished confines of obedience, rejecting the ideologies that taught women to discipline themselves and braid away their ferocity.

Through movement and spoken word, Avantika tears apart the “good girl” archetype. The performance becomes a love letter to rage, a reclamation of the Chudail myth from Indian folklore, and a rebellion for women whose hair refuses to behave.

Colonial hangovers? Snipped. Patriarchal combs? Snapped.

A post-show talk with Avantika Tibrewal will take place after the performance of the 27th of November.
